The Best 2016 Minor League Baseball Promotions

This similarities of marketing Minor League Baseball and the circus are striking. As 2016 rolls on in the MLB, the majority of professional baseball in the United States is being played in cities like Omaha, Tidewater, Trenton, and Fresno. Minor League Baseball is not only a stepping-stone for professional ballplayers, coaches, and umpires, but also an experience that can hardly be described.

When planning your next road trip, don’t leave out these amazing nights across America:

May 21, 2016: The Stockton Ports will host Asparagus Night. Home to the annual San Joaquin Asparagus Festival, the Ports will be donning special Asparagus-themed jerseys for this very auspicious occasion.

June 3-5, 2016: The Toledo Mud Hens will host Geek Weekend. Celebrating classic video games, the Mud Hens will wear Legend of Zelda jerseys to kick off a weekend that includes a live orchestra playing music from Star Wars, Harry Potter, Star Trek, Lord of the Rings, Superman, Batman, and a medley of video game tunes.

June 10, 2016: Not to be outdone by a bunch of asparagus-eaters, the Lehigh IronPigs will hold a Salute to Philly Night. That’s right; the team that had previously donned bacon-themed jerseys will change their names to the Cheesesteaks and wear appropriately-themed jerseys.

July 9, 2016: The Brooklyn Cyclones will hold a Full House Tribute Night, with the first 2,500 fans receiving Uncle Jesse bobbleheads. Cut, it, out!

July 17, 2016: The Lake County Captains (suburban Cleveland) will be giving away James Garfield bobbleheads in honor of the nearby Republican National Convention. The 20th President of the United States was the second president to be assassinated, and is the only person in American history to be a U.S. Representative, a Senate-elect, and a President-elect, all at the same time. Surely this is bobblehead-worthy.

August 20, 2016: The El Paso Chihuahuas will have 10th Anniversary of Pluto Becoming a Dwarf Planet Night. If the astrological news hit you as hard as it hit me, El Paso is where you need to be. The events are bound to be out-of-this-world.

*May 21, 2016: Finally, special consideration needs to go to the Altoona Curve, a team that had a hugely successful Star Wars Night promotion last season, wearing Jabba the Hutt jerseys. THIS season, the Curve will wear special Jar Jar Binks jerseys, designed to distract opposing pitchers. Well played, Altoona Curve. Well played.
